Bournemouth & Poole: Strategic review of support, services and provision for children and young people with high needs.

Dear Parent/Carer

Bournemouth Borough Council is undertaking a strategic review of support, services and provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND) and other high needs. Working jointly with our colleagues in Poole, we have commissioned an independent organisation called Isos Partnership to work with us to review the current continuum of support, services and provision. Isos has a track-record of supporting national government and local areas to review and develop strategies to improve education, children’s services and, specifically, SEND services. You can find out more about Isos’ work at www.isospartnership.com.

As part of this review, Isos are keen to gather feedback from a broad range of colleagues across Bournemouth, including parents and carers, as well as young people themselves. The review will be carried out during the autumn term 2017, with the bulk of Isos’ evidence-gathering activities taking place during October and November.

In order to gather feedback from parents and carers, Isos will be facilitating two workshops:

1. Tuesday 3rd October at The Bridge, Littledown Centre, Chaseside, Bournemouth BH77DX from 6.30pm to 8pm.

2. Thursday 12th October as part of the Bournemouth Parent Carer Forum. The Venue will be: Tesco, Community Room, next to the opticians, Riverside Avenue, Bournemouth, BH7 7DY from 10.00am to 11.30am.
The aim of these workshops will be to hear from parents and carers about their experience of accessing support and services for their children, about what is working well, and about what is needed to improve support for children and young people with SEND and other high needs in the local area. We hope that many parents and carers are able to attend these workshops.

If you would like to attend either of these workshops, please reply to Julie.bird@bournemouth.gov.uk

If would like to contribute to the review but are not able to attend the workshops, Isos have prepared a short online survey through which parents and carers can provide their feedback. The survey can be found here and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Please complete by 22nd October.

Isos will treat what is discussed in the workshops and the responses to the survey in complete confidence and will not attribute comments to individuals. They will, however, use the overall themes that come out of these valuable discussions with parents and carers to inform the outcomes of this review.

Many thanks in advance for your support for this important piece of work.
