Careers Education

Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 20.56.25St Peter’s are very pleased to have been awarded Level 2 Investors in Careers status. Investor in Careers Award holders have demonstrated a commitment to provide impartial, independent careers education, information, advice and guidance to all young people.

Careers education, advice and guidance (CEIAG) at St Peter’s starts to prepare a student for the world of work from their first arrival in Year 7. A two-day programme enables students to reflect on themselves, and their skills as a basis for making future decisions that will help them to live life to the full. In Year 8 students experience the Real Game. A fun and enlightening activity where students explore a job role they are interested in and how that impacts on day to day life.

This experience is deepened in Year 9, when students plan a holiday, and aims to improve the much desired soft skills of organisation, teamwork, presentation and communication. Our students are further prepared for the world of work in Year 9 via our Citizenship programme when every student has the opportunity to prepare a CV and develop interview techniques. In Year 10, students will have a programme of activities in preparation for a Careers Fair which will take place early in the Autumn term 2016. All Year 11 students are interviewed by Senior Leaders as they consider the range of opportunities ahead, from apprenticeships to work-based learning, to the wide selection of post-16 courses offered here in our sixth form.

As sixth formers, students enter new pathways programmes that tailor the advice, guidance and preparation for each student’s aspirations – addressing a range of exciting prospects whether it’s their intention to attend the most prestigious universities, take a gap year or to enter the workplace on leaving education. Parents are helped to support their child at home, via termly Future Insights Bulletins, designed especially for each year group.
