The Business Studies department offers courses at GCSE and at Advanced Level. At GCSE we follow the Edexcel examination board scheme as it allows a great deal of flexibility. Whilst all pupils sit the examination at the end of Year 10 in the ‘Introduction to Small Business’ unit, there is then an opportunity to study either ‘Building a Business’ or ‘Introduction to Economic Understanding’ Either of these options are a good basis for following the A Level courses we offer in Business Studies and Economics as well as Applied Business and Law.
The Subject Leader has many years experience in industry which helps to bring the subject to life. Our courses have links to businesses and the teaching methods vary with the requirements of the topic covered. They include communicating individual and group ideas, using creative thought to help make decisions, using numbers to solve business problems, and looking at the world of business through research, investigation and practical tasks. We also consider familiar TV programmes such as ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Dragons Den’.
A GCSE Business course could lead to work in a business-related profession such as accountancy, law, marketing or the leisure and tourism industry.
