The French and Spanish departments have been united to create one cohesive Modern Foreign Languages Department. The MFL team are dedicated and passionate linguists who teach both languages in an exciting and engaging way. We are committed to creating learners who show a willingness and enthusiasm to communicate and express themselves in a foreign language.
We use a wide variety of techniques and resources to encourage and motivate our students. The department is equipped with projectors and interactive whiteboards both at the lower and upper schools. We also have the full benefit of a 30 computer language laboratory at the upper school, which supports independent and personalised learning, as well as offering our students excellent opportunities for developing their listening and speaking skills. This technology, coupled with a dynamic and supportive approach to teaching and learning, will help an even greater number of students to have a positive language learning experience with us at St Peter’s.
Our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 groups, who are studying for the AQA exam, spend valuable time with our foreign language assistants, developing their linguistic confidence to be able to communicate to the best of their ability. As well as understanding language, we also aim to develop our students’ grammatical knowledge and curiosity about how language works and an awareness and appreciation of other cultures. In today’s multicultural and increasingly international society, we are trying to dispel the myth that everyone speaks English! The ability to integrate with other cultures and societies is vital.
