The History Department at St Peter’s has been working with the History Faculty of Southampton University to stage a series of Historical lectures on a wide range of topics. The concept behind this idea was to offer students and members of the local community the opportunity to learn from leading researchers based at Southampton University which belongs to the prestigious Russell Group of Universities.
The inaugural talk was attended by nearly 50 people in the theatre at our school listening to an excellent talk on Roman History from Dr Alan Ross, and subsequent talks have seen attendances grow further with a combined total of 200 attendees across the first three talks. Special thanks must go to Mr Zack White (a former teacher at St Peter’s now working towards his PhD at Southampton University) and Dr John McAleer who not only gave a brilliant talk on the British East India Company, but has been hugely supportive towards the whole enterprise.
The current series of six talks concludes on Wednesday 28 March at 6pm with an exciting presentation from Dr Fuller entitled ‘The War on Terror: The secret history of the CIA’s lethal drone programme’. All are welcome to attend and the cost is a small donation of £1, payable on the door. If anyone would like further details regarding the upcoming talks on 21 and 28 March, or plans for future talks, please contact me via email at email@example.com
