Christmas Gift Appeal

One of the Lasallian Principles is ‘Concerns of the Poor and Social Justice’. Nearly seven in 10 people (67%) are worried about being able to afford Christmas dinner, according to recent research by the Salvation Army. One in seven (14%) cannot afford to give their children a Christmas present.

Chris Chastney, our Site Team Manager, has set up a project to provide gifts for children whose families are struggling this year. Staff are already bringing in unwanted toys, games and gift items suitable for a child. We would also like to reach out to parents, carers and the local community to help support this very worthwhile event by asking if you, your family or friends may also wish to donate suitable gifts. They can be brought into the Main Reception at either our primary or secondary sites.

Staff in school have volunteered to sort the gifts into age order, and will be wrapping and labelling them. We plan to host a Christmas family event on a Saturday in early December, when families who are affected this year will be invited to join us for a drink and mince pie at our secondary site, and will be given a Christmas gift to take home for their child/children.

Any gifts left over after our Christmas family event will be taken to a local children’s home. For information on supporting Child Poverty in the UK, please see https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/what-we-do/child-poverty/uk-child-poverty
