Following the retirement of some long serving Governors (to which the entire Governing Body and the School are most indebted) St Peter’s Governing Body is looking for some new members.

The main tasks of a Governing Body are to support the school, ensure that students receive high quality education and plan for future development and improvement. Governors challenge and support the leadership team (they are often referred to as “critical friend”) and both monitor and approve the school’s policies.

It’s an extremely rewarding role and whilst we are particularly looking to appoint one Governor with Safeguarding experience, we welcome applications from anyone with an interest in education. The typical time commitment includes attending one meeting of the Full Governing Body each term along with one sub-committee meeting. All meetings are held in the evening.

In addition Governors take turns to carry out monitoring and evaluation visits once a term which involves spending half a day in school, talking to students, staff and attending parents evening. Each Governor is asked to conduct one such visit each academic year.

If you feel you are interested in finding out more, please contact Mrs S Wallace-Abbott, Clerk to the Governing Body, at with your full contact details and a brief factual statement about yourself. Richard Dickinson, Chair of Governors, will be in touch in due course.

For the protection of children, such appointments are subject to a vetting process and identity check and should you be successful you will be required to complete a declaration of eligibility form.

Please also be aware that if appointed, you will also be a member of the Academy Trust and will accordingly be registered with Companies House.
