Chaplaincy
Chaplaincy is a ministry which is involved in all aspects of school life and the wider community. Below are some of the events organised by the Chaplaincy team each year:
Prayer
St Peter’s is a community of prayer. Alongside daily prayer in tutor time and assemblies, each week we have a variety of prayer groups for students of all ages where they can explore and grow in their faith.
Individual Support
School Chaplains are available each day to talk, to listen and to support both students and staff
Mass
Mass is celebrated at least once a week in our Chapel, alongside this we have a program of Primary Class Masses, Whole School Mass, Staff Masses, Tutor Group Masses and Annual partner schools Mass.
Liturgies
A program of services and liturgies runs throughout the school year for all students in Reception through to Sixth Form, encouraging them to take time out, to reflect on their place in the world, in relation to God and to others.
Annual Retreats
All students in Y4-11 have opportunities for retreat days where they can explore their personal faith journey and relationship with God.
Rainbows
Annual support program for students who have suffered separation, death or divorce in the family. Rainbows programmes run at both Primary and Secondary level.
Youth Alpha
Each year we run lunchtime Youth Alpha sessions encouraging our young people to explore their faith. This is run in collaboration with youth workers from local Christian churches.
The Liturgical Life of the school
Key events in the Church year are celebrated in school including school wide Advent service, Ash Wednesday services, Reconciliation Week, Stations of The Cross, The Angelus, Adoration and Saint Peter and Paul Mass.
Tutor prayer and assemblies
Chaplaincy support staff with resources and practical help to deliver meaningful, impactful daily prayer and worship.
Staff Prayer
We lead termly staff prayer and reflection and act as a link to keep staff informed of local worship events
The Wider School Community
‘Prayer shots’ is a weekly prayer email for staff, parents and other members of our community to promote and support prayer for the whole school community.
Parish Links
We have strong links with our local Parishes and with many local clergy who visit the school regularly. Students taking the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation are supported and celebrated within school. The Chaplaincy team liaise with Parishes and Deanery clergy to organise annual community prayer events within school.
Chaplaincy is about walking alongside all those who are part of our daily lives. It’s about realising that each of us is unique and loved by God. We seek to provide opportunities where everyone can explore what this means; to encourage everyone to see the good in themselves and grow in relationship with God and each other. Chaplaincy work in school has many faces. For many, our chapel is a quiet refuge, it is open each day for reflection and prayer, but it is also a space to talk, to listen, to gather and to celebrate together.
