Medic Mentors group
On Friday ex star-student and soon-to-be doctor, Alex Carver, came to speak to the current members of the Medic Mentors group to take questions about his experience of Medical School and to do an exercise of case-based learning to teach them the basics of taking a patient history.
They were given the case of "Kelly", a 24 year old woman who had been on holiday in Ibiza and now had terrible stomach pain with diarrhoea. Alex taught us the SOCRATES method for asking questions, to build up a picture of all relevant information before giving us her test results so that we could decide on a diagnosis and course of action. A huge thank you to Alex for his time and for volunteering to lead such a useful session for our potential doctors.
