GCSE Photography London trip

Before half term, GCSE Photography students visited London to attend both The National Portrait Gallery and The Photographers' Gallery. The Taylor Wessing exhibition, running at The National Portrait Gallery, displayed compelling narratives, technically well-accomplished images and a reassuringly diverse range of photographers and models.
Students were asked to consider what the model of each image may be thinking, how they were posed and what interactions they were having with the photographer and then the viewer. Students found the Taylor Wessing exhibition inspiring for their upcoming sketchbook work, and many found personal connections with the images on display. At The Photographers' Gallery, students had the opportunity to attend two exhibitions, Latizia Battaglia's hard-hitting press photography from Sicily and Deborah Turbeville's physically manipulated analogue fashion photography. Both shows asked students to consider the role of the photographer in revealing stories and how their physical editing or presentation of the work can have an impact on the story it offers.
The Art department is excited to see the ideas generated during this trip flourish into personal projects ahead of students completing their GCSE's this summer.
